British Standard BS9999 (Fire Safety Design in Commercial Buildings) can be used as an alternative approach to Approved Document Part B in Commercial Buildings. BS9999 uses fire engineering principles and a risk based approach, taking account of features such as automatic fire detection, higher ceiling heights and sprinklers. This can allow increased travel distances and narrower door and stair widths for your project as compared to Approved Document Part B.
