Sitting at the top of one of Sheffield’s hills Astrea Academy was envisioned to not only become the home of 1500 pupils but to also ‘reinvigorate the local neighbourhood’. The prominent building is composed of a new build school and will incorporate the existing Grade II listed school (formerly Pye Bank School) which has been refurbished, and in recognition was shortlisted for the Conservation category in Yorkshire and Humber RICS awards. The listed building will be home to the primary school years. The challenges in topography, which varies in excess of 30m, have been tackled creating an accessible school whilst incorporating incredible views across the city.
